Inspired by Grease with Guest Designer Su-Queen

We are starting week 3 of the Inspired by a Book, Movie or Song challenge and we are so wowed by all the amazing entries in the gallery! This challenge is clearly everyone’s favorite! You have one more week to challenge yourself to recreate your favorite book, movie, song or show. This challenge closes on Sunday, April 4th at 11:59PM ET.

Now we have more awesome inspiration by our Guest Designer Su-Queen Teo! I hope you have been checking out all the inspired by projects she has been adding to the gallery. Be sure to check them out at thepapercrownnyc on Instagram! For this Grease-inspired card she used Car Critters and Tiny Friends!

Let’s let Su-Queen tell us about her Grease-inspired design:
I was inspired by the Thunder Road Race scene from the movie Grease. The background panel is inked using Broken China and Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide ink. The road is cut out from the Palm Tree Border die and inked with Antique Linen and Gathered Twigs Distress Oxide ink. I cut out two pieces from the Tropical Backdrop die and cut off all the palm trees. Both were inked with Black Soot and Weathered Wood, one panel lighter than the other. The lighter gray panel is offset from the top. The darker gray panel has foam dots for dimension.

One car has flames from Little Dragon, for the other car I hand drew lightning with a silver pen. I added acetate for the window, added two people from Tiny Friends and used foam squares to pop them up. Cha-Cha also is popped up with foam squares and is holding a scarf (used the smaller seaweed from Fintastic Friends). The sentiment is stamped with Jet Black ink on Sunflower cardstock from the Simple Wavy Banner die.

Thank you so much for sharing all of your incredibly creative projects for this challenge, Su-Queen! We are so happy you joined us for this challenge!

Peter Rabbit Inspiration with Christy

Hey friends, it’s Christy here with another card for our Inspired by a Book, Movie, or Song Challenge! I have been loving watching the entries come in and am blown away by your creativity!

For my card today, I wanted to depict another classic children’s tale and one of my personal favorites: Peter Rabbit. I pulled together images from Some Bunny, Happy Harvest, A Bug Deal, Our Friendship Grows, and Critters on the Farm to make it happen.

The first thing I needed to do was to alter my bunny and give him a little jacket just like Peter’s. So I drew it in pencil and then traced over it with a Memento Tuxedo Black Pen. I also altered the watering can to give it a top with a little opening at the front, to resemble the one in the illustrations. Then I colored all my images with Copic markers to match as closely as possible, and trimmed them out with the matching dies.

For the background, I took the second largest of the Large Stitched Rectangle Stackables and die cut some Mermaid Cardstock for the sky. Then I used the Grassy Border on some Cilantro for the grass, and the Simple Stitched Hillside Borders on Ground Coffee for the dirt. I stamped a sentiment from Some Bunny at the top of the sky panel in Peacock Ink.

To give the card a cozy look, I added a piece of patterned paper from the Perfectly Plaid Remix 6×6, die cut with the largest of the Large Stitched Rectangle Stackables to my Speckled Eggshell card base. Then I popped my focal panel up with foam tape and adhered my images with liquid glue to create the nostalgic scene in Mr. MacGregor’s garden. I also added a bit of Stardust Stickles for a little sparkle and shine.

I also finished off the inside of the card by stamping another classic scene from the book, but you can check that out in the video tutorial on my YouTube channel, Christy Gets Crafty.

If you haven’t had a chance to play along in our challenge yet, there’s still time! The Inspired By challenge will be open until Sunday, April 4th at 11:59PM ET. I can’t wait to see what you create!

A Dreamy Scrapbook Page with Samantha

We are in the second week of our 3 week Inspired By challenge and we are so impressed with all the creativity you are sharing! If you haven’t joined the challenge yet, you still have plenty of time. The challenge closes on Sunday April 4th at 11:59PM ET.

Hi friends, it’s Samantha! The title of my scrapbook page “don’t let your dreams be dreams’ is a lyric from a Jack Johnson song Dreams Be Dreams.

My little Menn are getting older every day, and they don’t hesitate to tell me! But when I check on them at night, and they still cuddle their stuffed animals, and dream their little dreams, they’re still just the baby boys I used to rock to sleep!

To create my layout, I started by using the Starry Sky Stencil and translucent embossing paste to create the starry, textured background. Then once it was dry, I used watercolors in blues, mints and greys to create the swoopy background, over the stars! Once the watercolor was dry, I used the star stencil again and using only the largest star in the stencil and white embossing paste, I used added even more texture!

I used vellum, white cardstock and frosted gift bags from my stash to back my photos! Then I popped them up on foam tape, and attached it to the background. I stamped the small letters using Violet’s ABC’s around the swirls! The “dreams” words were die cut out of white cardstock with Cole’s ABCs. I added some grey and gold watercolor and popped them up with foam tape so they stand out a little more!

Thanks so much for sharing your gorgeous scrapbook page with us today, Samantha!

We can’t wait to see what inspires your creativity! Thanks for stopping by today!
