Hey friends, it’s Christy here with another card for our Show Us Where You Live Challenge! Since I already did a card inspired by Presque Isle State Park, this time I decided to do more subtle nods to my home state of Pennsylvania. Our most famous animal is Punxsutawney Phil, the groundhog who comes out of his burrow every February 2nd and determines whether or not we will have six more weeks of winter based on if he sees his shadow. Groundhog’s Day has passed but we still have plenty of these critters here so I thought it might be fun to try to recreate one by transforming one of the beavers from Wood You Be Mine?

To turn this into a birthday card, I added in images from A Bug Deal, and Really High Five, stamped them in Jet Black ink, colored them with Copic markers, and trimmed them out with the matching dies. I colored all the little party accessories in blue and gold, our state colors.

Pennsylvania was founded by William Penn, and the name means Penn’s Woods. We do have lots of forests here, so I thought the Forest Backdrop would be the perfect frame for my scene. I die cut it from Dark Brown Woodgrain Cardstock, and cut the trees from Cilantro and Noble Fir. I also die cut the grass portion of Mushroom Border from Noble Fir.

Then I created a background by blending Broken China Distress Oxide Inks onto Bristol Smooth Surface Cardstock using the Cloudy Stencil. I also darkened up the edges of the grass and trees by using Mowed Lawn on the Cilantro Cardstock and Pine Needles on the Noble Fir Cardstock.

I popped the frame over the background using Scotch 3M Foam Tape, added my images with liquid glue, and finished with a custom sentiment combining phrases from Let’s Toast and Really High Five. I also finished off the inside of the card using Noble Fir Ink.

You still have time to play along with our challenge! We can’t wait to see how you interpret this one!

Thank so much for this creative inspiration, Christy!

Design Team Inspiration

Mimi‘s awesome card depicts iconic images from California. From the golden poppies, and sunshine to the Golden Gate Bridge and the bear that adorns the state flag, Mimi has included them all in a Forest Backdrop framed scene. I love how she spelled out the state in Finley’s ABCs swapping out the O for the sun!

Samantha used How You Bean? to fill the mason jars with some “sweet tea”, a nod to the Southern region of the United States. She also included a sweet lemon from You’re the Zest! She spelled out the punny greeting with Harold’s ABCs on a Fancy Wavy Banner!

Christy used a bunch of different sets to create small scenes in a Peekaboo Backdrop! She used Happy Village, Coaster Critters, Smooth Sailing and Ahoy Matey to highlight some special places where she lives.

Franci created a fun collage using our Village sets to stand in for her town. I love that she added the cute Happy Hugs critters and sentiment!

Karin‘s card is so fun with a heart shaped Swedish flag and iconic horse! She used the horse from Hay There and Henry’s ABCs to write out her country. She framed it all with a Heart Garland Backdrop: Portrait.

I love Samantha‘s design with some of the sights found in Ohio! It reminds me of a travel brochure! She used Smooth Sailing, Coaster Critters, and Love You S’more for the images. She created the lake with Stitched Pond Frame and then she used Oliver’s Stitched ABCs to include her state name.

Joyce‘s cheery card showcases a bunch of typical Dutch things: cows, bicycles, cheese, tulips and rainy days! Her happy scene features Hay There, Bicycle Built for You, Crazy Antics, Meadow Border, Apple-solutely Awesome, Screen Time, Den Sweet Den and Beary Rainy Day! She stenciled the background using Rainy Sky Stencil.

Catherine filled her card with iconic images of Canada! Wood You Be Mine beavers are essential and so is the Critters in the Arctic moose! She included snow-covered Stitched Mountain Borders and used Henry’s ABCs to spell Canada! She even gave her card a fun interactive element, when you pull the tab the So Dam Much beaver tails wave!

Of course, our resident mermaid lives near the ocean! Jenn created a watercolor background and Quinn’s ABCs. Then she added cute jellyfish from Ocean Shell-fie and So Jelly! Then she framed her card with Heart Garland Backdrop: Landscape. I love how she swapped the hearts for shells and starfish! So clever!

We will share more Design Team inspiration for you over the next 2 WEEKS and we’ll announce our Featured Fawnatics and random winner for Challenge 142 – Interactive Cards tomorrow! We can’t wait to see how you Show Us Where You Live!
