Christy’s Party Animal Birthday Card!

Hey friends! It’s Christy here with another sweet project for our Coffee, Tea, and Treats Challenge! Anyone who knows me knows how much I love patterned paper. But what happens if you don’t have the perfect complement for the project you have in mind? Well, you can create your own! And it’s easier than you might think, especially if you have a stamp positioning tool, such as the MISTI.

Today I decided to feature Party Animal. I don’t know about you, but I never seem to have enough birthday cards and this is the perfect set for creating those. I first stamped out the images I wanted to use for my focal panel and set those aside. Then I took a piece of 4 1/2” x 5 1/2” white card stock and lined up all my background images in one corner of the panel. I picked them up and stamped them down with the door of my MISTI and voila! A quarter of my background was done! I quickly rearranged my images into the next corner, closed the door to stamp them down, and so on. The whole background took me maybe two minutes to stamp out.

When you have a lot of images like this to color, it can be overwhelming to figure out what to tackle first. I would suggest choosing a color palette first. I chose to do light pink, hot pink, yellow, orange, turquoise, and purple. Then I picked one image to color with each of those tones, for example, all the cake bases yellow, all the frostings hot pink, with the exception of the balloons, which I wanted to be the one element that added a different pop of color on each. If you break it down in this way, it actually goes pretty quick.

When I was done coloring, I die cut my main images and glued them down to a Stitched Circle Stackables focal panel, on which I stamped a sentiment from Baked with Love in Juice Box ink. I die cut the background panel with the Outside In Stitched Rectangle Stackables so it has that nice detail and a 1/8” border and glued that down to the card base. I popped my focal panel up in the center with foam tape, and stamped an additional image and greeting on the inside to finish up the card.
