Jessica’s Shout-Out to Her Home State

Good morning! Jess here with a card for our current Make the Sentiment the Star challenge as well as Tammy’s Home Is Where The Heart Is challenge! I’ve lived in the great state of Virginia for the majority of my life (15 years in Virginia Beach and 14 years in the Shenandoah Valley) and thought I’d use my card to highlight some of my favorite things about Virginia!

Virginia is for Lovers is an iconic Virginia tourism campaign so I thought I’d share a bunch of cute critter couples enjoying all Virginia has to offer! The bottom starts off with the Atlantic Ocean, humpback whales, sailing, and an anchor to represent the US Navy since Virginia is home to the largest Navy base (and that’s the reason I grew up here as my dad was in the Navy) and then we move to Chincoteague Island and the famous ponies! Next we move into some of the beautiful forests of Virginia and the reason why central and northwestern VA is apple country! I also tucked in a roller coaster for two of our great amusement parks: Busch Gardens and Kings Dominion. And finally I wanted to include the gorgeous fall foliage the Shenandoah Valley is known for along Skyline Drive with a peek at the Appalachian and Blue Ridge mountains in the distance!

To start I blended a bunch of panels with distress oxide inks. I used Blueprint Sketch, Chipped Sapphire, and Salty Ocean for the Atlantic Ocean; Tea Dye for the sand; Bundled Sage, Pine Needles, Evergreen Bough, and Mowed Lawn for the green forests; Scattered Straw, Mustard Seed, Wild Honey, and Candied Apple for the fall foliage; Stormy Sky, Faded Jeans, and Iced Spruce for the mountain ranges; Blueprint Sketch for the sky; and Squeezed Lemonade for the sun. Whew! 😉 After I was done blending I cut each panel with the Large Slimline with Sliders die set to get stitched edges along the sides. Then I used the Stitched Wave Borders, Stitched Hillside Borders, Puffy Cloud Borders, Shadow Box Card Mountain Add-On and Spring Showers to die-cut all the panels to create the layers of my scene!

Next I stamped the whales from Whale You Be Mine; anchor and sailboat from Smooth Sailing; ponies from Hay There; Tree from Tree Before ‘n Afters; apple bushel from Thanks a Bushel; and the roller coaster and critters from Coaster Critters. I colored them all with copic markers and then die-cut them with the coordinating dies. I also die-cut several hearts for each critter couple and my sentiment. The sentiment was created from a combination of letters die-cut from Finley’s ABCs with white and black cardstock and letters stamped and heat-embossed from Milo’s ABCs on black cardstock. I tucked all the images into my layers and then adhered them layer by layer until the card was complete. Then I finished the card by coating the hearts with a little glitter from the glitter pen!

And that’s it! You have two more weeks to get crafty for Lawn Fawnatics and until the 28th for Tammy’s challenge and I can’t wait to see what you’ll create! Thanks so much for stopping by and have a fabulous weekend!
