Christy’s Winter Narwhal Card Sketch Inspiration!

Hey friends, it’s Christy here with another card for our Card Sketch Challenge! On my first card earlier this week, I stuck pretty close to the original design. On this card, I’m going to mix things up a bit, and show you another way to interpret a card sketch!

But before that, I had to gather all my different elements together. I started by stamping out my images from Winter Narwhal, Beary Happy Holidays, and Making Frosty Friends. I colored them in with Copic markers and trimmed them out with the matching dies. Then I created a background with Shaded Lilac Distress Oxide Ink and added some white splatter and a few snowflakes. I trimmed out three little panels using the Stitched Simple Wavy Borders — two out of Moonstone cardstock and one out of the new Pearlescent Vellum. I stamped my sentiment in Moonstone ink on the bottom panel. Now I was ready for the assembly!

Referring back to the sketch, the first thing I did was flip it upside down. Then I took the middle horizontal divider and raised it up a bit. That gave me room to layer my three Wavy Border panels to my background. First the tallest, then the vellum so I could hide the glue under the third, the sentiment panel.

To represent the circle, I adhered the Narwhal up top, with the three fish (including the gift-wrapped little guy — so cute!) in a semi-circle below. I added the iceberg and two birds, which I colored to look (sort of) like puffins to take the place of the banner flags!

I adhered the entire panel to a Moonstone card base, and as a finishing touch, added a few sparkling clear sequins and a bit of Crystal Stickles glitter glue to the centers, as well as the scarves, gift bow, and narwhal horn.

And that’s it! If you’d like to see how this card came together, you can find the video tutorial on my YouTube channel Christy Gets Crafty!

I hope that gave you some new ideas on how to interpret a card sketch! I personally love sketches and use them all the time, so if you don’t, I hope this inspires you to give this one a try. We can’t wait to see what you create!

The Card Sketch Challenge will be open until Sunday, November 3, at 11:59PM ET. Come on, join the fun! There will be a random winner of a $25.00 gift card to lawnfawn.com from all the entries and a chance to be featured right here on the blog!

This happy card design combines several sets in 3 super cute vignettes all combined in one scene! The bunnies from Happy Easter are hanging out with the snowman from Making Frosty Friends! Winter Bunny is sledding with the cute squirrel from Joy to the Woods and in the background there’s a charming village created using Simply Celebrate Winter and the trees from Sweet Christmas!

Ildi’s beautiful coloring adds so much dimension, fun and detail to all the images, especially the little critters!
