An Fun Underwater Christmas Scene with Jess!

Challenge 16 closes this Sunday, November 19th at 11:59 PM PT

Good morning! Jess here with a card for our Use Your Oldest Lawn Fawn set challenge! I’m combining an older set with some newer sets to create an unusual Christmas card!

I started by stamping the cute narwhal from 2014’s Critters in the Arctic and the narwhal from Mermaid For You with VersaFine Onyx Black ink, heat-embossed them with clear embossing powder, and colored them with Copic markers before die-cutting them with the coordinating dies. I also stamped some Christmas tree decorations from Cheery Christmas and the schools of fish from Mermaid For You onto a piece of Bristol smooth cardstock with VersaFine Onyx Black ink, heat-embossed them with clear embossing powder, and colored them with Copic markers. After they were colored I covered them with a layer of masking fluid. Next I stamped the tree with Pine Needles Distress ink, stamped over it with VersaMark Watermark ink, and heat-embossed it with clear embossing powder. I liked the look of this particular tree for my underwater scene because I thought it could kinda pass for seaweed or kelp! 😉

Once the masking fluid dried completely, I blended Salty Ocean, Mermaid Lagoon, and Wilted Violet Distress ink onto the Bristol smooth cardstock and splattered it with water to create bubbles. Next I die-cut the Stitched Hillside Border and blended it with Tea Dye Distress ink and added some dots from Copic markers to create a sandy ocean bottom. Once the Distress ink was dry I adhered the hill to the background panel.

Next I adhered my narwhals with foam mounting tape. I arranged them so it would look like they were decorating the Christmas tree! Then I stamped the sentiment from Merry Messages onto black cardstock and heat-embossed it with white embossing powder. Finally I added some accents with a white gel pen, a little Spectrum Noir Clear Sparkle here and there, glossy white Nuvo drops, and Nuvo Crystal Glaze. There’s crystal glaze on the fish, the lights and star, and the horns of my narwhals! The glossy white Nuvo drops created dimensional bubbles throughout the water. When it catches the light there’s so much sparkle and shine! 🙂

And that’s it! You’ve got one more weekend to get crafty and dust off those old sets for our Use Your Oldest Lawn Fawn set challenge! Thanks so much for stopping by and have a fantastic day!
